Geoscience is very proud of our own Nathan Reynolds who was presented the Carnegie Medal in Claremont, California on April 22, 2017. He was honored for his heroic actions back in January 2015 in Marina, California where he rescued Olivia Schreiber and her great-granddaughter from a sinking car. Nathan was driving nearby and witnessed a car crashing into a pond. He sprang into action and jumped into the water pulling the little girl through the car window and swam her to safety. Nathan returned back to the pond rescuing the great-grandmother from the submerging car when police arrived and helped him in bringing the woman to safety. Both the woman and little girl made a full recovery due to Nathan’s bravery and quick actions on that day.
