Geoscience Support Services provides slant well technology for Monterey Peninsula Water Supply Project, saves marine life

Geoscience Support Services welcomes the California Coastal Commission’s recent approval of the Monterey Peninsula Water Supply Project, to create a reliable, drought-proof water supply for the Monterey Peninsula by producing groundwater from a submarine aquifer for water desalination. The Monterey project’s approval comes on the heels of the Coastal Commission’s green light for the Doheny Ocean Desalination Project, including Geoscience’s slant well technology for water production from submarine aquifers, last month.

“Geoscience’s slant well design is key to the Monterey project and the Coastal Commission’s approval,” said CEO, Mark Williams.  “Taking in water from hundreds of feet under the ocean floor, these slant wells enable the next generation of seawater desalination plants. The highly efficient wells are drilled entirely from land and have a minimal footprint.”

“Prior to this technology, open pipes used for ocean water desalination intakes trapped and killed marine life,” added CEO, Williams. “Our slant well technology ensures the ocean water intakes have no impact on marine life.
